About Christmas & Réveillon

Réveillon, from the French for 'awakening', was the Creole feast eaten after midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. The custom had nearly died out by the 1940s; in the early 1990s French Quarter Festivals, Inc. revived it as a programme of prix-fixe menus in local restaurants, offered through the month.

Other December fixtures include Celebration in the Oaks in City Park, caroling in Jackson Square, and the bonfires on the levee in St. James Parish on Christmas Eve.

The exact Réveillon season and list of restaurants vary from year to year, so check menus before booking.
