About Satchmo SummerFest

Satchmo SummerFest was founded in 2001 for the centennial of Louis Armstrong's birth (Armstrong himself said he was born on 4 July 1900; his baptismal record gives 4 August 1901, the date the festival follows). It is small, free and devoted to traditional jazz, with music stages on the grounds of the Old U.S. Mint and talks by Armstrong scholars inside.

It ends with a jazz Mass and a second line, and is one of the few good reasons to plan a trip in the heat of August.
