History

Muses was founded in 2000 by Staci Rosenberg and first rolled in 2001, with about 1,100 members. It took the name of the nine Muses and the Thursday-night slot, and became one of the most popular parades in a few years.

Its signature throw, a shoe decorated by hand by the rider, was inspired by Zulu's coconut. Shoes are handed down to people in the crowd, never thrown.

Its floats lean to satire and spectacle; a giant illuminated rubber duck has become one of its best-loved.
